I am Katrin Urwitz from Stockholm, Sweden. After working as a wigmaker and makeup artist at the theater I took a break to travel Latin America, the first trip led to many more trips and eventually to a significant encounter with myself dancing tango in Buenos Aires. Since 2007 I have spent a lot of time in Argentina and my interest in craft and design combined with me starting to use high heals for the first time in life awoke my interest in shoes. They have to be beautiful and comfortable and functional to dance in. I wanted to know more, I wanted to learn how shoes are made by hand. And so I did. Once I started making shoes I wanted to make all kind of shoes, not only for dancing tango but for everyday life.
As a result of this personal journey I started Katrinski. The bigger part of the producction I do myself - from idea to design and trough all the steps to a ready pair of shoes. I have learned from masters with generations of experience in the art of making shoes by hand, far from the big industries. I still work closly with my teachers as they are now a part of Katrinski producction.
Katrinski long to make beautiful and comfortable shoes. A mix of the latin feminine way of expression and the Swedish comfortable and practical approach to footwear. To combine the best of both worlds together with fine craft and original design.
You should always be able to dance in a pair of Katrinski !
